SUBJECT: Flood Damage Repair Permit

As a reminder, any citizen living in a floodplain in the unincorporated area of Taylor County that experienced damages to their home due to the floods of August, 2007 will need to obtain a Flood Damage Repair Permit from the Taylor County Environmental Office if repairs are being or will be made to your home. The usual fee of $25.00 for this permit is being waived for the specific Disaster Events of 1709 and 1730 so as not to cause any additional burden to our citizens.

TAYLOR COUNTY, TEXAS

AMENDED ORDER PROHIBITING OUTDOOR BURNING

WHEREAS in accordance with Section 352.081 of the Texas Local Government Code, the Taylor County Commissioners’ Court has found that dry conditions along with heavy fuel accumulations in the unincorporated areas of Taylor County create a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning; and, whereas such a finding authorizes the issuance of an order which prohibits or restricts outdoor burning.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED that the following regulations are hereby established for all unincorporated areas of Taylor County, Texas:

(1) Action prohibited:

a. A person violates this order if he or she knowingly or intentionally burns any combustible material outside of an enclosure which serves to contain all flames and/or sparks, or orders such burning by others.

b. A person violates this order if he or she knowingly or intentionally engages in any activity outdoors which could allow flames or sparks that could result in a fire, or orders such activities by others.

(2) Enforcement:

a. A violation of this order is a Class C Misdemeanor.

b. This order may be enforced by any duly commissioned peace officer in Taylor County.

(3) This order is effective and enforceable for 90 days after the date signed below.

(4) This order does not apply to outdoor burning activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for firefighter training; public utility, natural gas pipeline, or mining operations; or planting or harvesting of agriculture crops.

This order does not apply to outdoor burning activities that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager certified under §153.048, Texas Natural Resources Code and meet the standards of §153.047, Texas Natural Resources Code.

This order does not apply to welding professionals, provided that the work area has been cleared of all debris or accumulated fuels and that another individual with extinguishing materials is present at the worksite.

Any person or persons who violate this order may be held liable for any and all damages incurred as a result of their actions.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the County Judge or his designee may lift this order if climatic conditions change.

THEREFORE, the burn ban ratified by the Commissioners’ Court of Taylor County at its regular meeting on January 8, 2008 is hereby AMENDED by the Commissioners’ Court of Taylor County, Texas on the 22nd day of January, 2008, and executed on the same date in regular session of Commissioners’ Court.

 

Annexation Committee

 

Any party interested in being considered for an appointment to the 5 person committee to review the proposed annexation by the City of Abilene is invited to submit their request via e-mail.  This committee is required by state statute to determine potential services needed if the City chose to annex the area near Potosi. That area consists of the land south of the airport down to CR 111 from Colony Hill Road to near Maple Street. This would include the subdivisions of Colonial Hills and Blackhawk.  Requests will be accepted until close of business on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.  An individual is requested to send information about himself for consideration by the Taylor County Commissioners’ Court.  Interested parties must be a current resident of the area considered for annexation.  Your requests should be sent to Commissioner Chuck Statler at statlerc@taylorcountytexas.org.

 

If you do not have e-mail, you may bring your written request in person to 300 Oak Street, 2nd floor Administration Office.  The deadline of close of business on December 5, 2007 applies to this method.
