TAYLOR COUNTY LAW LIBRARY
Mission Statement
Establishment of a County Law Library is provided by the county as per Texas Local Government Code § 323.021. The objective of the Taylor County Law Library is to provide a reference-only (publications cannot be checked out) research facility, which is supplied by major primary and secondary legal texts. It is our goal to support the practice and understanding of the law to county and court personnel and the public by providing access to the most relevant federal and state resources. We accomplish that objective by an inventory of pertinent legal texts and access to computer-assisted legal research.
Duty of the Librarian
The Law Librarian’s duty is to help patrons locate resources needed to conduct their own research and instruct them, if needed, on how to use the resources. The Law Librarian CANNOT give legal advice, recommend or lead patrons to answers to their legal issues, interpret the law, or recommend to patron what legal information needs to be placed in a legal document. (Tex. Gov’t Code § 83.001).
Law Librarians are not required to be an experts in the law, so do not regard them as quick alternatives to attorneys for a legal question. If you need someone to answer your questions who is an expert in the law, you may want to contact an attorney. Taylor County does not provide referrals, so please contact the State Bar of Texas at 800-252-9690 for a referral.
Forms and Packets
Contrary to popular belief, a majority of the forms the public may need ARE NOT available to pick up and take with you to “fill in the blanks”. Please see our list of “Pro Se” forms under the Pro Se Information & List of Forms to determine if the form you need is available to pick up and take with you, or if it requires drafting.
Disclaimer: The content of the forms and packets obtained through third party legal sources such as as Texas Law Help are for public convenience only. Taylor County expressly disclaims all liability in the accuracy of the forms or any perceived bias by the user. Use at your own discretion.
